Back Home was released in November 1970 on Chess Record, catalogue LPS 1550. Marking his official return to his original creative "home" after a three-year stint with Mercury Record, the album attempted to bridge his classic 1950s rock and roll roots with a heavier, contemporary production. The tracklist consisted entirely of new composition, mixing traditional chugging guitar rhythms with a modern, blues-heavy inflection. .
