About

Abominog is the 14th studio album by Uriah Heep. It was recorded in late 1981 and released in March 1982. It was the band's first album recorded without Ken Hensley, its main creative force and keyboard player. It was promoted by "On the Rebound" and "That's the Way That It Is", as well as by Abominog Junior EP. It gained some good reviews and was quite successful commercially, reaching #34 in the UK and #56 in the US. "That's The Way That It Is" reached #25 on the US Rock Chart. The album marked a beginning of a new era in the band's history. Ken Hensley left the band after the recording of Conquest, Heep's previous album. In 1980, John Sloman left the band (or was asked to leave) as well after recording just one album with Uriah Heep. Mick Box and Trevor Bolder decided to build a new line-up around themselves and the original singer, David Byron. Surprisingly, Byron declined the invitation, as he had recently formed a new band. Dissatisfied Bolder accepted the invitation to join Wishbone Ash (he returned to Heep less than 2 years later and is still in the band as of 2010). Mick Box thought that it was time for Uriah heep to call it quits and wanted to form a new band but soon changed his mind and decided to form a new Uriah Heep line-up around himself and Lee Kerslake, who had left the Heep only 2 years earlier. This newly formed line-up recorded an album that moved strongly into the hard rock/ heavy metal direction. Abominog was remastered and re-released in 1997 with 4 bonus tracks and again in 2004, as a part of the expanded deluxe edition serie, with 6 additional track. It was also the first Uriah Heep album since the debut to feature cover. In fact, half of the album's original tracks were covers and "Think It Over" was a re-recording of the band's song from post-Conquest session. Interestingly, none of the track's authors (Bolder, Sloman) was in the band any more at that time. Abominog was the first of 2 albums recorded by this line-up of Uriah Heep, which featured: Pete Goalby - vocals Mick Box - guitars Lee Kerslake - drums Bob Daisley - bass .
