About this album

Cliff Burton recorded his bass parts for this record in the same Sweet Silence Studios where Flemming Rasmussen tracked the band. The man played like a lead guitarist, not a rhythm section player. You own records by System of a Down and Deftones, so you know what happens when someone stops treating the bass as an afterthought. This album is the blueprint for that kind of aggression. Most people talk about the riff density. I’m more interested in the fact that they cut this thing in a cold, rainy Danish winter while living on beer and takeout. The discipline to keep that kind of focus when you're half-dead from exhaustion is why this record still sounds like a punch in the face. It’s not just thrash. It’s composition.
