People wax poetic about the Moog synth or the medley, but the real story is that "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" was the final track the four of them recorded together in the studio. You've heard it a million times, but knowing that sudden, brutal tape cut-off was their actual, real-time goodbye? It changes the whole vibe. Geoff Emerick had to fight tooth and nail to keep that feedback wash from burying the rhythm section. Most people don't realize the white noise was John just torturing his guitar through a Leslie cabinet until his hands bled. You’ve got 18 of their records already, so you know the drill. This 2019 reissue isn't the original '69 cut, but the low end on that remix finally gives Ringo’s tom work the space it’s been choking for since the analog days. Don't let the "remix" label scare you off. It’s a cleaner look at a band that was already halfway out the door. Just play it loud enough for the neighbors to hear the transition into "The End." It’s the only way.
