Tyler Bryant lives for music. Passionate about expressing himself and connecting with others through his songs and sounds, Tyler moved to Nashville from Honey Grove, TX when he was 17 to write songs and start a band. He has pushed the musical limits of guitar, vocals, and performance, and has captured the attention of the music scene with his spectacular talent and rare showmanship. Tyler Bryant, currently 21 years old, is a guitar prodigy who has shared the stage with Aerosmith

  1. The Wild Child Years

    After self-releasing early material, the band hooked up with producer Vance Powell for their 2013 debut full-length, Wild Child. Powell, known for his gritty analog work with Jack White and The Dead Weather, captured the raw energy of their live set at Sputnik Sound. He pushed the band to record live to tape, highlighting the interplay between Bryant and Whitford. The result was a dirty, fuzz-drenched record that positioned them as torchbearers for a new wave of blues-heavy garage rock.

  2. The Major Label Squeeze

    Signing to Republic Records for their 2017 self-titled album meant a cleaner production style and more corporate pressure. Recorded in part with producer Joel Hamilton, the record had to bridge the gap between their natural blues instincts and the demands of modern rock radio. You can hear the tension on the record, with big, polished hooks fighting against their instinct to just plug in and jam. It was a slicker machine, but it proved they could write a massive hook under pressure.

  3. Home-Studio Independence

    Frustrated by the major label bureaucracy, the band retreated to their own home studio in Nashville to record Shake the Roots in 2022. Operating under their own label, Rattle Shake Records, they stripped away the commercial sheen to make a record that sounded like a sweaty club gig. By handling the tracking and production themselves, they reclaimed their grit and focused on raw, slide-heavy Southern grooves. This shift let them release music on their own schedule without suits demanding radio edits.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan — Bryant has cited Vaughan as his primary reason for picking up the guitar, having obsessed over his live footage as a kid. You hear it in Bryant's aggressive, heavy-handed stratocaster attack and his frequent use of a circular, driving shuffle rhythm. It is the foundation of his entire lead style.
  • Aerosmith — The connection is blood-deep, given that rhythm guitarist Graham Whitford is the son of Brad Whitford. The band has shared stages with the Boston legends and adopted their signature twin-guitar weave. You hear this classic, swaggering interplay on tracks like 'On to the Next' and 'Drive Me Mad'.
  • Roosevelt Twitty — The late Texas bluesman was Bryant's mentor, teaching him how to play with actual feeling rather than just playing fast. Twitty co-wrote early material and spent years playing shows with Bryant around Texas. That deep, traditional country-blues phrasing is the backbone of the Shakedown's acoustic slide work.
  • The Black Crowes — The Shakedown toured with the Crowes and hired their keyboardist, Peter Gorman, to play on early sessions. The Crowes' mix of bluesy swagger, gospel backing vocals, and Southern rock grit is all over 'Truth and Lies'. It is the blueprint for how they arrange their biggest mid-tempo rock tracks.
  • Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers — Bryant frequently highlights Petty's band as the gold standard for how a rock group should function as a unit. You hear this influence in the band's tighter, song-oriented arrangements on 'Pressure'. It forced them to focus on the song rather than just long, self-indulgent guitar solos.
