Biography

British musician from Glasgow, Scotland. Player of the cello (trained by William Pleeth (opens in a new tab)) and many indigenous varieties of instruments, most notably flutes, whistles, and pipes. Founded Incantation in 1981-82, alongside Mike Taylor (opens in a new tab), with whom he had become versed in the folk music of the Andes. With the band, he performed Ennio Morricone (opens in a new tab)'s score for The Mission in 1985. Has been involved in film music since: often collaborates with James Horner (opens in a new tab), and plays cello for The Michael Nyman Band in soundtrack recording sessions and tours.
