Biography

The Redwalls are a rock band from Deerfield, Illinois, formed in 2001 by brothers Logan Baren (vocals/guitar) and Justin Baren (bass/vocals), along with guitarist Andrew Langer and drummer Jordan Kozer. Originally performing under the name The Pages, they began as a British Invasion-style cover band before transitioning to original material.
Their early performances at Nevin’s Live in Evanston caught the attention of booking manager Mitchell Marlow, who left his position to manage them full-time. With help from former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer, their demo reached Capitol Records. The band signed with Capitol in 2003 and changed their name to The Redwalls due to a preexisting Capitol act using the name The Pages.
Their debut album, Universal Blues, was released in 2003 on indie label Undertow Music. Shortly afterward, Kozer left the band and was replaced by drummer Ben Greeno. The band’s major label debut, De Nova (2005), was produced by Rob Schnapf and brought the group widespread attention, including tour slots with Oasis.
In 2007, the band was dropped from Capitol during the label’s merger with Virgin Records, which resulted in the formation of Capitol Music Group. However, The Redwalls retained ownership of their third album, recorded in Malmö, Sweden with producer Tore Johansson, and released it independently as The Redwalls in early 2007.
That same year, they issued The Wall to Wall Sessions EP through their own label, Princeton Lane Records, in July 2007. Following the album’s release, Greeno left the group, and Rob Jensen joined as the touring drummer through 2008.
After a European tour in 2008, Andrew Langer departed to form The Sleeptalkers with former manager Mitch Marlow; Jensen would later join the group as well. Guitarist Jason Roberts briefly joined The Redwalls for studio sessions and live performances.
A few years later, Justin and Logan Baren began working on a fourth album in Liverpool with members of The Zutons as their backing band. Although the project neared completion, the band went on hiatus in 2012 before the album could be released.
In 2024, the Baren brothers resumed work on the long-shelved record with Grammy-winning producer Clay Blair at Boulevard Recording in Los Angeles. The album is slated for release in 2025.
