Biography
Barney Kessel (guitar), Ray Brown (bass), and Shelly Manne (drums) won the reader polls in Down Beat, Playboy, and Metronome magazines first in 1956 and then again in 1957, which is precisely what brought the players together.
As a group, they released four studio albums between 1956 and 1960, with a reunion album in 1975.
The "Poll-Winners" in the Adderley recording are the 2 multiple "Poll-Winners" in the Down Beat Jazz Polls (Ray Brown and Wes Montgomery) and not a group.
They should not be filed in this profile.
