Biography

Sylvia is a county pop singer from the USA.
Sylvia was born December 9, 1956 in Kokomo, Indiana. She sang in church choir from the age of three. Following high school graduation in November 1975, Kirby moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in pursuit of country music stardom. She worked as a secretary for producer Tom Collins. Collins helped her become a demo singer and background vocalist for Janie Fricke and Barbara Mandrell and helped her secure a recording contract with RCA Records in 1979. Her first RCA single was released in 1979 called "You Don't Miss a Thing". More singles and an album followed in 1981.
She became famous for her 1982 smash hit "Nobody," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country chart and No. 15 on the Pop chart. The song sold over a million copies, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, and won her the Academy of Country Music Female Vocalist of the Year award in 1982. She continued recording and touring until 2002 where she took a new direction and became a life and career coach, graduating from the Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara, California. In 2016 she released her first album in 14 years. She has continued to record since then.
Sylvia's crossover music was rooted in the country genre, but also embedded country pop, adult contemporary and in the early 80s disco.
Also known as Sylvia Jane Allen, Sylvia Hutton and Sylvia Rutledge.
