Biography

UK singer (14 July 1947 – 31 October 2018).
Ray Owen, the original frontman of cult rock pioneers Juicy Lucy, was one of the great unsung figures of British rock. Born in the UK in 1947, a Black child adopted by white parents, he began his musical journey as the bass player for the legendary The Misunderstood. The Misunderstood evolved into Juicy Lucy with Ray stepping up as lead vocalist.
In 1971, Polydor released Ray Owen’s Moon, an album that produced a No. 1 single in Belgium and was later hailed by Classic Rock magazine (Nov 2010) as a “lost nugget.”
He later fronted Atomic Rooster during one of the band’s more turbulent periods and spent a brief spell with Killing Floor, who were promptly poached to become Rory Gallagher’s backing band.
