Biography
Danish born singer and actress. Born Nina Magdelene Møller-Hasselbalch in 1932 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she is best known for her part in Nina & Frederik, a calypso-inspired folk duo with her husband Frederik, Baron van Pallandt (opens in a new tab), whose name she took. The duo achieved international succes, also appearing in the movie The Melody Of Love with Louis Armstrong. They married in in 1960 and had 3 children but divorced in 1975. Before, she had been married to Danish-English singer/actor Hugo Wessel. In 1969 she contributed the song Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown? to the James Bond-movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service. (Rumours has it she also "played a part" in another 1969 song, Peter Sarstedts UK #1 hit Where Do You Go Where Do You Go To (My Lovely). One theory is that Nina van Pallandt was the mysterious Marie-Claire in the song about a young jet-setter who moved in high circles but was from a lowly origin. As an actress, Van Pallandt appeared in several Robert Altman films during the 1970s, including The Long Goodbye, A Wedding, and Quintet. In the early 1980s she appeared in American Gigolo and Cutter's Way.
