Biography
MIKE BLOOM, aka “Cave,” is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer & mixer who's been steadily releasing a tremendous backlog of work compiled over recent years. In addition to his solo output, he was a founding member of the bands, The Elected, HAHA (with Maria Taylor from Azure Ray), and has toured the globe as a musical director, guitarist, bassist, lap steel player, vocalist for many artists, including Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley, and Julian Casablancas, among many others. As both producer and mixer, Bloom has worked with a wide swath of artists and genres, including a long-standing collaboration with lauded indie rock troubadour Richard Edwards, burgeoning Australian indie pop artist Imogen Clark, and a host of others
Bloom first picked up a guitar at the age of 10 and couldn’t figure out how to put it down. After several years of this quiet torrid affair, he relocated from New York to LA where he got involved in indie film scores and music supervision, in addition to several long standing residencies, incorporating elements of his improvisational background and emerging songwriting skills. His 2011 debut solo record, King Of Circles drew comparisons to Harry Nilsson and The Byrds with his “scenic guitar work… expertly displayed, deceivingly complex acoustic picking." Those guitar abilities have taken him from the stages of Coachella to Glastonbury, Red Rocks to Madison Square Garden, and the full spectrum of late night TV. He has also played and toured with Jonathan Wilson, Tim Heidecker, and Harper Simon to name a few.
Additionally, Bloom has worked on original music for numerous film scores, soundtracks and ad campaigns. Highlights include working alongside friend and composer Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes) for the recent films, Regretting You (directed by Josh Boone) and Midnight Sun, (directed by Scott Speer and ft. Bella Thorne), Concussion (ft. Will Smith), Song One (ft. Anne Hathaway), Don’s Plum (ft. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire), and a number of short films. His compositional work in the commercial world extends to Coca Cola, NHL, Zillow, Hyundai, Titleist, Adobe, Theory, and more. Bloom was also the voice of an animated crooning donkey in the critically acclaimed art installation, Imitation of Life (directed by Austrian visual artist, Mathias Poledna) which debuted at the Venice Biennale, and showed at the Whitney Museum in New York.
When he is off the road, he resides in Los Angeles working out of his studio, Hello Caveman.
