Biography

American R&B/Soul singer and songwriter.
Brother of Ortheia Barnes.
His biggest hit in the US was Baby Please Come Back Home which reached #9 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 1967. On the recommendation of Edwin Starr, his friend and groupmate in The Holidays, Barnes moved to England in the 1970s, becoming popular. Starr had arranged for Barnes to appear on a series of shows, which led to him signing a deal. He became a favorite artist of the UK Northern soul scene, and performed frequently in the UK. Since 1980s Barnes never again achieved major notoriety, but he continued to perfom right until the end.
