Biography
(b. December 2, 1949; d. December 28, 2021) American keyboardist and vocalist from Windsor, Connecticut. He was raised in the Holy Trinity COGIC in Hartford, CT where he would eventually become Pastor in 1985. The church relocated and was renamed to Latter Rain Christian Fellowship COGIC in 1998 where he remained as Pastor for 36 years. As a teenager he became inspired to teach himself the keyboard after hearing Billy Preston playing organ on a James Cleveland record. He had the privilege of going on tour with the renowned jazz organist, Richard "Groove" Holmes. After his time with Holmes, he continued as a professional musician, and saw secular success, joining forces and creating music with the band Wood, Brass & Steel and Musique. He was part of the house band on Sylvia and Joe Robinson's All Platinum Records. He received numerous awards and has written songs for The Pace Sisters and Ricky Dillard. Pastor Powell was a musical innovator fusing R&B, Funk, Soul and Jazz with Gospel, releasing five albums.
