Biography

American country group led by Hank Williams active 1937 - 1951.
Formed in 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama, the group's lineup changed frequently - as many as a hundred different musicians passed through the group. Although the Drifting Cowboys were often credited on Williams' record labels, he was typically backed by session musicians until 1950. The group was sometimes co-billed with Hank's spouse Audrey Williams as some version of "Hank & Audrey Williams with The Drifting Cowboys". Hank disbanded the group in 1951.
The group, as The Drifting Cowboys, have also performed and recorded on their own and with a few other artists, including Ray Price.
