American musician who played banjo mainly in the Western swing genre.

Died April 17, 1992 (aged 73) California, USA.
Father of actress and of producer Greg Penny.
Penny had three hits on the Billboard Country Singles chart: "Steel Guitar Stomp" (1946), an instrumental that featured Noel Boggs and Merle Travis, "Get Yourself A Red Head" (1946), and his own composition "Bloodshot Eyes" (1950).
