Biography
American jazz musician was born in Piedmont (Mineral County), West Virginia. He attended and graduated from Storer College in Harper's Ferry, WV. He was a multi-instrumentalist, (predominantly saxophone and clarinet but also piano and others), arranger, bandleader, and composer. His innovative arrangements for the Jazz greats helped to lay the foundations of the big band era. In 2009 he was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. Uncle of Dewey Redman.
