1. 01

   The Coven Self-Releases

   Before the major labels started calling, she was self-funding her own weirdness out of Florida. Tracks like Yucky Blucky Fruitcake were built on zero budget but massive personality. You can hear the raw theater kid energy leaking through cheap microphones and basic bedroom beats. It was chaotic, deeply weird, and completely unbothered by commercial radio standards.

2. 02

   The TDE Shakeup

   Signing to Top Dawg Entertainment in 2022 changed the stakes instantly. Working with producers like Kal Banx on the she / her / black bitch EP, the sound got heavier and the polish got expensive. She was suddenly sharing mic space with SZA and pushing her voice into aggressive, metallic registers. The underground eccentricity collided head-on with elite rap infrastructure.

   The Swamp-Rap Reckoning

   With the 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, she stripped away the polished pop aspirations to lean into pure, swampy Southern gothic grit. Recorded under intense pressure, the project utilizes minimalist, bass-heavy production that lets her technical flows take center stage. The theatricality didn't vanish. It just got dark, tense, and incredibly hostile.

Influences

• Missy Elliott — Doechii has repeatedly cited Missy as her blueprint for visual surrealism and vocal flexibility. You hear this in the elastic vocal delivery of What It Is and the bizarre, high-concept execution of her music videos. Missy proved that a female rapper could be a weird, eccentric director of her own universe.
• Nicki Minaj — The multi-personality rap style and rapid-fire character switches on Alligator Bites Never Heal trace directly back to Nicki's Mixtape-era run. Doechii studied her ability to pivot from a raspy growl to a sweet pop hook within the same sixteen bars. It's the foundation of her theatrical vocal delivery.
• Busta Rhymes — The sheer physical velocity of her flows on tracks like Alter Ego comes from studying Busta's animated, percussive delivery. She has noted his ability to treat the voice like a literal drum kit. You can hear that high-energy, elastic cadence in her double-time verses.
