Biography
Early US punk band formed in 1976 in San Francisco, California, by Johnny Strike and Frankie Fix.
After releasing 3 singles - the first being the self-financed "Hot Wire My Heart" (probably the first independent American Punk record) - the group collapsed in 1982, after tensions within the band caused by drug abuse, among other reasons. Strike and Joey D'Kaye played together as Vector Command soon after.
In 1987, Sonic Youth covered "Hot Wire My Heart" on the album Sister, exsposing Crime to a new audience. In 1990 two unreleased rehearsals of the band were put out as the "San Francisco's Doomed" LP. Frankie Fix died in 1996.
In 2005, Strike and Hank Rosenthal reunited Crime, with new members Brett Stillo and Mike Lucas joining them. The new line-up put out the album "Exalted Masters" in 2007, comprising mostly of old Crime songs that were never recorded before. The group was active on-and-off until 2017, while Strike, Rosenthal and D'Kaye also formed Naked Beast.
Johnny Strike passed away in 2018.
