Biography
Cracker is a U.S. alternative rock band led by singer David Lowery and guitarist Johnny Hickman. The two formed the band in 1991, and mixed influences and sounds from rock, punk, grunge, psychedelia, country, blues and folk.
The group released its self-titled debut album on major label Virgin in 1992, including the alternative hit single "Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now)" and another single in "Happy Birthday to Me". Cracker is perhaps best known for its gold-selling 1993 sophomore album, "Kerosene Hat", which includes the hit songs "Low", "Get On This", and "Euro-Trash Girl."
The exact day (February 21, 2006) that Cracker's prior major label, Virgin, released "Get On With It: The Best Of Cracker" (opens in a new tab) without the group's consent or cooperation, Cracker released "Greatest Hits Redux" (opens in a new tab), their own hits album with newly rerecorded versions of their own songs. Hilariously, the group also priced their own release cheaper than Virgin's compilation, undercutting the major label sales.
Over the decades, the group has released nine studio albums and several compilations, plus collaborations, solo projects, and live albums.
