Cory Wong is a Grammy-nominated American guitarist, bassist, songwriter, podcast-host, and producer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has released many works as a solo artist and in partnership with others. His background spans several genres including jazz, rock and funk. He has performed with Vulfpeck, Dave Koz, Stay Human, The Fearless Flyers, Ben Rector, Dr. Mambo's Combo, Chris Thile and Dirty Loops. He released several albums in 2020, including Live in Amsterdam

The Vulfpeck Catalyst
Everything changed when Jack Stratton invited him to track with Vulfpeck, eventually naming a song after him. That connection stripped away the jazz fluff and forced Wong to embrace the 'minimalist' funk philosophy where the space between the notes matters more than the notes themselves. Suddenly, his right-hand technique became the focal point of the entire production. This shift turned him from a local session guy into a cult hero for every kid on YouTube trying to learn how to funk.

Prince — Wong grew up in the shadow of Paisley Park and frequently cites the Purple One's 'clean' funk guitar style as his primary blueprint. Nile Rodgers — The 'Chucking' technique Rodgers used on every Chic and David Bowie hit is the literal DNA of Wong's playing style. Wong has explicitly broken down Rodgers' influence on his chord voicings in multiple masterclasses. Without 'Le Freak,' there is no Cory Wong.
