British multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, born 4 May 1951 in London, England, UK. His eclectic career has seen him working in a broad spectrum of music styles. Known to many for his distinctive bass playing and singing in progressive-rock legends Camel (1979 to the present day) he was also a member of the "world-music" pioneers 3 Mustaphas 3 from 1984-91 and he has worked with many top international artists on record, on stage and as record producer.
In 1994, under his 3 Mustaphas 3 alias Sabah Habas Mustapha, he recorded an album in Jakarta, Indonesia featuring some of the top Javanese musicians from the "dangdut" music scene.
A recognised expert on Indonesian Pop Music, he has contributed to "The Rough Guide to World Music" (Penguin Books), as well as magazines such as Folk Roots and Songlines.
