Biography

American pop singer-songwriter, known for her sound inspired by 1980s synth-pop and early 2000s pop, as well as her aesthetic influenced by camp and drag. Born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz in Willard, Missouri on February 19, 1998, Chappell Roan (IPA: /ˌtʃæpəl ˈɹoʊn/) chose her stage name as a combination of the name of her grandfather, Dennis K. Chappell, who died of brain cancer, and a word taken from his favorite song, "The Strawberry Roan" by.
Roan released her debut EP School Nights under in 2017 after first gaining attention in 2014. Her intended debut album was planned for release in 2018 but was indefinitely shelved. Beginning her work with producer Dan Nigro, she continued to release singles, including "Pink Pony Club", until she was dropped by her label in 2020.
Continuing her work with Nigro, Roan started releasing music independently in 2022 and opening Olivia Rodrigo shows. She embarked on her first headline tour in February 2023, and in September she released her actual debut album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess after signing with and. Over six months later, in April 2024, the album entered the Billboard 200. She released the single "Good Luck, Babe!" also in April, which became her first song on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by both preceding and succeeding releases.
In 2025, Chappell Roan won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
