About
Released in 1976, Zombie is one of Afrobeat firebrand Fela Kuti's most political musical statements. The infamous title track sparks into life like a ball of fire, with Tony Allen's polyrhythmic drumming and Fela's sharp sax playing powering a 12-minute jazz- and funk-influenced epic that peaks with a spirited attack on the Nigerian government's military tactics. That monster jam is ably flanked by "Mr. Follow Follow," a downbeat and reflective track that's anchored by menacing bass guitar and foreboding percussion lines.
