This master contains several releases, featuring one of the the following versions of the song on side A:
- the full 5:04 album version, including the spoken intro;
- the album version without the spoken intro, running 4:12;
- the single version, edited even further and running 3:40.
The song was released as the first single of the album, b/w a 3:05 edit of "For Crying Out Loud" (running 8:45 on the album).
This version charted in the UK, but neither in the Netherlands nor in the US.
After the song "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" became a No. 1 hit in the Netherlands, "You Took..." was re-issued in the US, b/w the 5:25 Dutch edit of "Paradise...".
This release reached No. 39 in the Billboard Hot 100.
In the Netherlands, "You Took..." was re-issued in its full 5:04 with the full 5:23 of "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" on the B-side (that song was released as an A-side before, but did not chart in the Netherlands). This release became a Dutch Top 5 hit, and was the fifth single lifted from the album (only the final two charted there):
