About
<i>Works Volume 1</i> is split evenly among the three voices of ELP. While Keith Emerson explores orchestral composition, Carl Palmer revives pure rock ‘n’ roll, especially the greasy blues tune “New Orleans.” Between the soothing ballad “Closer To Believing” and the rootsy R&B of “Nobody Loves You Like a Do,” Greg Lake’s offerings are the strongest songs, but collectively, the trio roars to life on “Fanfare For the Common,” an Aaron Copland adaptation in which Emerson’s keyboards whistle and whizz alongside the ripping groove.

The UK release of Works Volume 1 (K 80009) had two different label layouts. Considering the left hand side of the labels, layout #1 had catalogue information in this order (Side A used as example):

Label layout #2 had a different order and made use of an asterisk. The fourth and fifth lines are indented:

In addition, the last publisher on side 3 switches between two lines on the asterisk version and one line on the non-asterisk version, and the publisher on side one has an additional comma - "Palm Beach International Recordings Ltd.," on asterisk labels.
A copy could have all sides based on label layout #1, all sides based on label layout #2, or any combination of these.
All versions of K 80009 will need to have the labels specified in the Notes.
The UK release of Works Volume 1 also had at least two sets of etched handwriting on matrices, completely different to one (opens in a new tab) another (opens in a new tab), also coexisting in some discs. Hence, beyond combinations of label layouts, beyond combinations of matrices, there is also resulting combinations of both.
