About
Dropping robust, well-executed rap albums early and often seems to be Larry June’s forte. The Bay Area MC’s Who Coppin comes to fans just five months after the Curren$y and The Alchemist joint album Spiral Staircases, itself some seven months removed from June’s Cardo Got Wings collab, Until Night Comes. Truth be told, if you’re listening to a second Larry June album in the span of a calendar year, you’re likely familiar with his healthy-eating/luxurious-living brand, but in case you’re not, he’s enlisted popular podcast host and motivational speaker Wallo267 to break it down on “Go Outside Intro”: “This that soundtrack to fly shit,” Wallo267 proclaim. June is noticeably particular about who he flys with. Who Coppin is light on guest appearance, but each one lands with purpose. Jhené Aiko glides effortlessly across the hazy “California Dream,” while R&B veteran Musiq Soulchild brings out June's more vulnerable side on the Jay Versace-produced “Pretty Green Eye.” Bay Area rap veteran B-Legit pops on the Cardo-produced Win or Lose,” while DJ.Fresh's record scratches give “Organic Motion” a nostalgic, old-school texture that feels right at home for June’s brand. .
