Written by Michael Carr and Ben Nisbet as the theme tune for the 1968 BBC TV series The White Horses, which had originally been shown as 'Počitnice v Lipici' (in Yugoslavia) and 'Ferien in Lipizza' (in Germany).
The British theme was sung by Irish-born Jackie Lee, using the name Jacky. It became a top 10 hit in the UK charts in April 1968. The Penguin Television Companion book named it as the best television theme in history. The song has been covered numerous times by artists as disparate as Claudine Longet, Trixie's Big Red Motorbike (Peel session), Sophisticated Boom Boom (Peel session), Morwenna Banks, Iain Ballamy with Norma Winstone, Cerys Matthews, Dean & Britta of Luna and Mari Wilson.
