About
One of Africa’s most beloved contributions to global Malian grooves comes from Amadou & Mariam, with their infectious Welcome to Mali. Replete with mande rhythms (“Magossa”) and rollicking blues-rock (“Bozos”), and polished with a perfect pop sheen throughout, the LP hypnotizes right from the start. Mariam’s crystalline falsetto spellbinds on the opener “Sabali,” and later, Amadou slowly simmers the beat with the reggae-tinged “Je te kiffe.”
