The debut album of British band the Creation, We Are Paintermen was named after their second single "Painter Man" and released only in West Germany and Denmark, an indication of their limited popularity and appeal at the time as they were largely unknown outside of continental Europe.
Featuring premier session pianist Nicky Hopkins and produced by the legendary Shel Tamy, the album consists of both original material and covers featuring a variety of musical styles including garage rock, psychedelic rock, and hard rock. Guitar virtuoso Eddie Phillips co-wrote all of the original material on the album, sometimes with original singer Kenny Pickett or Pickett's replacement as singer Bob Garner. Despite being largely ignored at the time of its release, the album has since gone on to receive critical acclaim and as a result, has been reissued numerous times since the 1970s.
