Victor is a solo project led by Rush's guitarist, Alex Lifeson, as well as the title of the album by Victor and a track on the album. Lifeson has said that the album was written during a difficult period in his marriage and looks at the "dark side" of love. In addition to Lifeson's guitar work, the vocals are handled primarily by former I Mother Earth vocalist, Edwin, with Lisa Dalbello (listed as "Dalbello" - no first name - in the credit,) with Primus' Les Claypool fueling the bass on "The Big Dance" and Peter Cardinalli on bass for the rest of the track. Bill Bell added to the guitar track, Blake Manning did the drums drum, and Alex's son, Adrian Zivojinovic, did the programming for two tracks: "Victor," - with lyrics taken from the WH Auden poem of the same name - and "At the End." Those same tracks featured Alex speaking the lyric. The album was released in 1996. Among the other tracks is "Shut Up Shutting Up," which showcases Lifeson's quirky sense of humour, and features his wife, Charlene and her best-friend complaining about the men in their lives with periodic breaks for some Lifeson solo work before ending with him yelling at the ladies in response. Also included are two instrumental, "Mr. X" and "Strip and Go Naked," reportedly named after a drink served at The Orbit Room, a Toronto club Lifeson co-own. .
