About
"V" is the fifth studio album by the progressive rock band Spock’s Beard, released on August 22, 2000. A CD single was released to promote the album, featuring the track "All on a Sunday". The song was later re-recorded in 2001, resulting in a version that differs slightly from the album recording. The single also included an unreleased track titled "The Truth" and the music video for "All on a Sunday". A limited edition version of the album was also issued, containing a 32-page booklet with an interview with the band and individual fact sheets for each member. This edition additionally included a multimedia track featuring studio footage of the band. The track "Thoughts" forms the second part of a cross-album suite that also appears across "Beware of Darkness" and "Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep" by Spock’s Beard, as well as on Neal Morse’s solo album "Momentum". "The Great Nothing" is the longest song recorded by the band at the time of release. It is autobiographical in nature and reflects songwriter Neal Morse’s perspective on his experiences as a struggling musician and his later renewed engagement with music. Morse stated that the song was written in 1997 and recorded in 1999, describing it as being based on the perspective of a depressed musician who is revived through music.
