About
Their follow-up to 1990’s lobotomizing Twin Infinitives, Royal Trux’s 1992 untitled effort sees Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema making tentative steps toward becoming a proper rock band. The fidelity is boombox-raw, but on “Air” and “Sometimes,” you can hear them lock into the Stones-esque grooves and Mick ‘n’ Keith vocal interplay they would later build upon. And on the startling acoustic elegy “Junkie Nurse,” Hagerty undercuts the druggy mythos surrounding the group at the time with an unflinching account of withdrawal.
