About
Bobby "Blue" Bland’s soulful vision arrived fully formed with this early-'60s debut. Flanked by gloomy horns and gut-punching skins, the crooner drowns blues, R&B, and rock ’n’ roll in a flood of tears. On one heartbreaking ballad after another, Bland masterfully plays the hurt fool—a man not too proud to grovel before his woman. When he doesn’t get the love he so desperately desires, which is often, his velvety voice gives way to ferocious wails that blast the music to smithereens.
