When released as a single in late 1987, "Tramp"—a song from Salt 'N' Pepa's 1986 album Hot, Cool & Vicious (opens in a new tab)—was given a new remix and was paired with a risqué new jam, "Push It" as a B-side.
For B-side of the 7", San Francisco DJ Cameron Paul provided a tightened-up edit of "Push It". This remix became a radio hit in late 1987, driving sales and pushing the "Tramp" single into the pop charts.
The B-side's success spurred Next Plateau to the release "Push It" as its own single (opens in a new tab) (filed in a separate Master Release in Discogs). The "Push It" and "Tramp" remixes were also added to reissues of the Hot, Cool & Vicious album, which was suddenly soaring in the charts nearly two years after its initial release.
