"Train to Nowhere" which was released by Challenge Records (No. 1016) on January 15th 1958. With some time left over after a Jerry Wallace session, using some studio musicians, they quickly recorded “Tequila” for a B-side. Of course, that’s the side that later became a huge hit for the group. In the studio that day were Burgess on rhythm guitar, Cliff Hils on bass, the Flores Trio (Danny Flores saxophone and piano, Gene Alden on drums, and lead guitarist Buddy Bruce), and Huelyn Duvall contributing backing vocals. Duvall recalls that the record initially found little success after its release, until a Radio DJ in Cleveland started playing the B-side "Tequila" and it quickly reached No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart on March 28th 1958. The song also reached No. 1 in Canada in 1958. Despite the disc labels stating Side One / Side Two the tune "Tequila" however was the big cash cow the Champs.
