This album is considered a highly influential release for the Black Metal genre, mostly for its warm sound (that became a trademark of the band's sound) which was nothing like the cold Norwegian / Scandinavian scene, especially at the time of its release.
Necromayhem wrote the music and Mutilator wrote the mysterious and apocryphistic lyrics, as a result of its inner reseach at the time with mystycism. Magus Wampyr Daoloth contributed to creating a unique atmosphere, not present in any other album of the genre during that period.
Raw and imperfect as the band wanted it, that was the album that gave the band its distinct identity and their unique melodic dark sound that is more or less present throughout their career.
"Thy Mighty Contract" also paved the way for other Greek black metal bands (and the Greek Black Metal scene in general), because at that time Osmose Productions was a formidable label in the Black Metal scene. In retrospect, breaking their contract with the label and signing with Unisound Records for the next release was a costly mistake on the band's behalf, simply because in terms of distribution, promotion and general exposure, there was no comparison between the two labels.
"Fgmenth, Thy Gift" holds deep and enigmatic meanings, drawing from occult and esoteric themes. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a dark and chaotic world, filled with entities and energies beyond human comprehension. The mention of "Fgmenth," referred to as a beloved successor, is intriguing and ambiguous. It could symbolize an individual who has willingly surrendered themselves to these dark energies and emerged transformed. Overall, explores themes of dark spirituality, the pursuit of power through forbidden knowledge, and humanity's fascination with the supernatural. It invites listeners to consider the consequences of venturing into realms beyond our understanding and the transformative effects that such exploration can have on the individual and the world around them. An earlier rehersal of this song can be found in Ade's Winds... demo.
"The Fourth Knight Of Revelation (I&II)" this song includes the lyric "Yoth Iria - unholy master, Yoth Iria - prince of fire", in 2019 Mutilator named his new band Yoth iria.
