The "Twist" was 1st released in 1959 by Hank Ballard And The Midnighters Teardrops On Your Letter / The Twist as a B side. It was written by Hank and by the following year (1960) Chubby Checker basically ran away with the song title and the record label "Parkway" was quick to name him the "Twist King". Rumor has it that Chubby Checker's name was a fictions record label invention, a twist on the ever popular Fats Domino: Domino vs Checker, both popular game names, and incorporating the overweight aspect of Fats vs Chubby.
