About
Roc Marciano has always kept his list of collaborators to a limited few. Across his discography, plenty of work is self-produced, and projects that feature outside help are contained; the list basically ends after Animoss, Chuck Strangers, Jake One, and the occasional beat from Q-Tip or Knxwledge. But The Alchemist seems to join in on the fun more often than the rest, cooking up a few beats on a number of Roc Marci projects, in addition to serving as the only producer on 2022’s The Elephant Man’s Bones and 2024’s The Skeleton Key. On the latter, the formula stays the same: Alc cooks up hazy, stoned grooves filled with psychedelic drum fills (“Street Magic”) and lush soul samples (“Skirt Steak”), while Marci takes listeners back to his childhood on Long Island and his experiences as a leading figure in New York’s rap underground. At 10 tracks and with zero features, The Skeleton Key is Roc Marciano and The Alchemist pure and uncut.
