The Singles Collection 2001-2011 by Gorillaz

About

Genre-mashing floor-fillers (“Dare”), wistful, synth-driven ballads (“On Melancholy Hill”) candy-coated surrealist rap (“Superfast Jellyfish”): there’s hardly a patch of musical terrain that isn’t covered in this punchy edit of the cartoon quartet’s decade-long recording career. Nestled next to each other—and packaged with Daley hook-up “Doncamatic”—there’s detectable growth, and boundless invention, across Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn’s three records. But there’s surprising cohesion too and it all amounts to a peerless collection of shape-shifting, collaborative pop.
