Over stripped-down funk and knocking 808s, the Vallejo, Calif., MC spits clever, reality-grounded raps on <i>The Mail Man</i> EP, leaning into every syllable with gusto. “Neva Broke” is a Bay Area slang primer over Vocoder-heavy G-funk, and “Bring the Yellow Tape” chronicles a neighborhood shooting with the drama of a mobster movie. The best is “Practice Lookin’ Hard,” a reflection on the lost innocence of childhood that features one of 40’s most poignant hooks: “I got a mirror in my pocket and I practice lookin’ hard.”
