About
After Getz/Gilberto made bossa nova the coolest sound in jazz, Verve signed Brazil's most popular composer to his first American recording contract. Although the sleeve photo captures Jobim at a microphone with his trusty acoustic guitar, this instrumental set focuses primarily on his piano playing. Producer Creed Taylor and arranger Claus Ogerman place Jobim's almost minimalist melody lines in subtle settings featuring flute, double bass, gentle percussion, and elegant strings. Classics like "The Girl from Ipanema," "Corcovado," and "Insensatez" have rarely sounded more graceful.
