About
Fudge Tunnel was fun yet kooky qhoulish, something we all smiled and raved about: the sludgy, free-wheeling madness of the time. Still it felt a little unsatisfying especially concerning "Creep Diets". Then THIS appeared. Something... HAPPENED to Fudge Tunnel, as a group, something that made the "fun-time, indy metal" of Creep Diets disappear in a haze of mercury vapor and global machine din. The joke was over and the bone-crushing power that Fudge Tunnel had always held back on came to the fore, in addition to the muse of some dark yet all-encompassing insights into the "Terrible Truths". Those thoughts and near-surface epiphanies that we all deny as we make small talks over our lattes' before we go soak up the haze of the banal post-modern condition (or as we awaken in our beds before such). The force of an all-compelling event horizon sucking in the power of a thousand cobalt salted devices could barely match the caustic destruction and black truths inherent in this disc. "The Complicated Futility of Ignorance" is terrible beauty: a masterpiece. What happened, I do not know; I probably do not want to know. All I do KNOW is that the illusion was ripped aside and the stark awesome beauty of pure annihilation came to the fore with Fudge Tunnel's last album. Then they dispersed. That is all they could have done. Nothing more could be said.
