About

The Car Over the Lake Album is the third album by the country rock band The Ozark Mountain Daredevil. Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, it was named after its cheerfully surreal cover illustration, which was borrowed from a poster advertising one of the band’s college gig. This package included a red acetate E.P. record nicknamed "The Little Red Record." In the continuing saga of The Ozark Mountain Daredevil, we find the band making the last album of their three album contract with A&M. They are now enjoying the fruits of two successful albums having each bought farm, increased their recreational substances usage and generally began settling into enjoying their expanding families and their southern Missouri lifestyle. A&M requested that they relocate to Los Angeles to follow in the footsteps of The Eagles but that didn’t fit in with their plan. A&M asked them to start on an extensive tour of the U.S., but this also didn’t work into their plan. Consequently, A&M provided little publicity or support when this album was released. The album reached only 57 on US chart. This lack of support from A&M and the band’s tendency to want to stay around home and make music, touring only sporadically, continued through their subsequent album, resulting in reduced sales but not reduced quality.
