About

Nick Cave already proved that he could handle the subtlety of ballads, but on 1997’s The Boatman’s Call, he doubles down, shifting The Bad Seeds’ emphasis from guitars and explosive performances to pianos and organs and subdued recitations. Cave’s writing also takes on a more personal and melodic edge. On songs like “Into My Arms,” “People Ain’t No Good,” and “(Are You) The One That I’ve Been Waiting For?” it feels like he's really put his heart on the line.
