About

Monster Magnet’s major-label debut gave mastermind Dave Wyndorf the means to realize his wildest sci-fi stoner-rock fantasies. In contrast to the basement-dank sludge of old, the sinister jangle of “Cyclops Revolution” opens up a 3-D soundscape of echoing incantations that summon a seismic fuzz-riff eruption. But as far out as he ventures, Wyndorf always remembers his roots: “Evil (Is Going On)” beefs up Willie Dixon’s blues standard into a brontosaurus-sized boogie, while the cover of Hawkwind’s “Brainstorm” outfits the proto-metal rager with extra jet-engine thrust.

Guide through European CD-issues (please do update for new versions):
The issues use the same booklet, independent of market. Differentiation comes from the CD, where one part is BIEM/STEMRA, while the other part is BIEM/MCPS. Estimation of release year was done using manufacturing parameters on the respective plants and presence/absence of SID-codes. The PMDC-products do not show a 8-digit-code, which is a pointer to a release before 1997.
Original issue from 1993 (opens in a new tab) has no SID-codes, BIEM/STEMRA and no manufacturer in matrix.
This other version (opens in a new tab) has no SID-codes, BIEM/STEMRA and the manufacturer in matrix (PMDC).
BIEM/STEMRA issues (booklet and disc have BIEM/STEMRA printings, probably for continental Europe market):
- Repress of original from 1994 (opens in a new tab) by PMDC, Germany, mould SID-code, no mastering SID-code.
- Later repress (opens in a new tab) with Universal logo in matrix (thus post-1996), both SID-codes.
BIEM/MCPS issues (booklet BIEM/STEMRA, disc BIEM/MCPS, probably for UK market):
- French repress (opens in a new tab) by PMDC, France, mould SID-code, no mastering SID-code. (Released between 1994-1999, probably before 1997)
- German repress (opens in a new tab) by PMDC, Germany, mould SID-code, no mastering SID-code. (Released between 1994-1999, probably before 1997)
