Super-producer Lee "Scratch" Perry's <i>Super Ape<i> is credited to his studio crew, The Upsetters, but while heavyweights like guitarist Earl "Chinna" Smith are irreplaceable, Scratch himself is the prime architect of this dub masterpiece. A heady, almost disorienting aura surrounds Perry's production. From the skittering guitars of "Underground" to the kaleidoscopic drum delay on "Dub Along" and the spacy-sounding flute of "Curly Dub," Perry tweaks every element to add just the right atmosphere for an intoxicating, otherworldly dub journey.</i></i>
