About
Stronger Than Death is the second studio album by Black Label Society, released on April 18, 2000. The album marked a shift towards an even heavier sound compared to their debut, Sonic Brew (1999), with darker themes and a more aggressive approach. Recorded at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, Connecticut, the album was primarily the work of Zakk Wylde, who handled vocal, guitar, and ba, alongside drummer Phil Ondich. While rhythm guitarist Nick Catanese was credited, he did not participate in the recording proce. The album is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and Pantera, featuring sludgy, down-tuned riff, thunderous drumming, and blues-infused solo. Lyrically, it delves into themes of strength, perseverance, and defiance, with Wylde’s raw, gritty vocal delivery adding to the intensity. Notable tracks include “Counterfeit God,” which carries politically charged lyric, the crushing title track “Stronger Than Death,” and “All for You,” a song showcasing Wylde’s bluesy lead guitar work. The album also includes “Love Reign Down,” a rare moment of emotional depth and introspection. .
