"Str8 Off Tha Streetz Of Muthaphukkin Compton" follows up Eazy-E's 1988 solo debut "Eazy-Duz-It (opens in a new tab)". The album was released nearly a year after his death from AIDS on March 26th, 1995.
Work for the album first began around 1989 under the name "Temporary Insanity", but the project had been abandoned and the release date had been revised on several occasions. Originally announced release dates for 1992, 1993 and 1994 had come and gone, and Eazy ended up releasing the EPs "5150 Home 4 Tha Sick (opens in a new tab)" and "It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa (opens in a new tab)" (in response to Dr. Dre's disses to Eazy on "The Chronic (opens in a new tab)") instead of his second album during that period. It was also around that period that Eazy had changed the name of his second album from "Temporary Insanity" to "Str8 Off Tha Streetz Of Muthaphukkin Compton". After years of delays and Eazy's death from AIDS on March 26th, 1995, the album was finally released in 1996, likely in early February.
