While reading A Chronicle of the Last Pagans by Pierre Chuvin, John Darnielle wrote one song a day for ten day. He recorded these songs on a boombox whose clickings had rendered it nearly unusable until he placed it on its side, when it would record with limited background noise. This is the first tape of this type by the Mountain Goats since 2002's All Hail West Texa, and while it is available digitally via the band's Bandcamp page, it was only released physically in a few limited-run cassette run. .
